Arrow Transport completes first A-triple trial at the Port of Brisbane

Arrow Transport has successfully completed a trial using a Mercedes-Benz Actros and A-triple in and around the Port of Brisbane.

The trial was focussed on moving both full and empty containers between key Port of Brisbane partners in a single movement – up to six 20ft containers (or three 40ft containers) at a time.

Arrow Transport said the A-triple cuts the number of prime-movers required for the task and, reducing its carbon footprint as the company looks to “move more with less”.

Heading up the special Arrow Transport combination is a road-train rated Mercedes-Benz Actros 2653. It uses a high efficiency 13-litre engine producing 530hp, teamed with a 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) towing Vawdrey skel trailers.

Arrow Transport is the first operator to use an A-triple road train combination out of the Port of Brisbane.

The company’s Queensland State Manager, Jason Gadd, said the trial demonstrated how the improved productivity delivers real benefits. “This is a groundbreaking initiative we’ve developed to revolutionise efficiency across the port supply chain. It’s an amazing project.”

Gadd added that operating the A-triple reduces congestion and boosts efficiency, safely and reliably. “The trial showed how innovative high-productivity solutions can benefit the supply chain and the community.”

Arrow Transport also thanked the Port of Brisbane, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and York Engineering for helping to make the A-triple trial a success.
