Upcoming Bruce Highway closures for repairs to overpass struck by excavator

The southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway at Tanawha, between Brisbane and Gympie, will be temporarily closed to all vehicles for interim treatments to the Ilkley Road Overpass.

This comes after a truck carrying an excavator struck and damaged the bridge on February 6.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says the works will be conducted overnight on Wednesday February 18, weather and constriction conditions permitting. A weather contingency date is Thursday February 19, if required.

Full closure of the Bruce Highway southbound lanes is anticipated to occur between 6pm and 5am.

Detours will be in place for southbound lanes via Maroochydore Road and the Sunshine Motorway. Northbound lanes will remain open.

Since the incident, the southbound lanes have been operating with a reduced 80km/h speed limit.

Single lane closures will also occur, overnight on both Tuesday February 17 and Thursday February 19, between 9pm and 5am, for the installation of monitoring instruments and testing on the overpass.

This will involve changed traffic conditions for southbound lanes on February 17 and northbound and southbound lanes on February 19.

TMR advises that road users should expect short delays of up to 10 minutes at times while single lane closures are in place, and expects these restrictions to impact OSOM vehicle movements.
