Reduced hours at NSW rest areas as upgrades begin

Truckies are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Kamilaroi Highway, NSW, as work on the Yambie Lagoon rest area upgrades restarts from Monday, April 20.

Work to install new amenities including toilets, picnic tables, water tanks and shelters at both the eastbound and westbound rest areas will be carried out between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

The upgrades are expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

This work, which follows the completion of pavement work in April 2025, will be delivered in two stages:

  • Stage 1: The eastbound rest area will be closed for about 10 days from 20 April.
  • Stage 2: Following completion of Stage 1, the new westbound rest area will be closed for 10 days.

Both rest areas will be open to truckies outside of work hours.

The nearest alternative rest areas are the Goodooga Truck Parking Bay (50.6 kilometres west) and the Big Warrambool (17.1 kilometres east).

The Australian and NSW Governments are investing $1.75 million in the upgrades at Yambie Lagoon, about 60 kilometres east of Brewarrina on the Kamilaroi Highway.
