Victorian based driver Colin Seamons was driving a Kenworth T608 in a convoy of trucks carrying demountable buildings when Big Rigs saw him pull into the BP Cluden Roadhouse.
Colin, 55, has worked for Aussielink Transport out of Williamstown, Melbourne, for over four years.
“I have been a truckie since I was 18 and this is one of the best jobs I have had. I do runs from Melbourne to Queensland,” Colin said.
The demountables were picked up at Essendon in Victoria and headed for Cairns.
“They are for a retirement village,” he said.
During his extensive travels, Colin has found the BP Roadhouse on Robinson Road in Truganina as his favourite.
“They serve really good food and I enjoy a nice steak,” he said.
As for rest areas, Colin said there aren’t enough for drivers, especially in NSW.
“What really annoys me is when you need to stop at a rest area and it is packed with equipment from Main Roads workers. You have to travel on another 100km away most times,” he said.
He added that his worst road is between Clermont and Charters Towers and he is not on his lonesome with that assessment.
“It is rough and on the way here we had to pass seven triples coming in the opposite direction which was difficult,” he said.
A dedicated sports buff, Colin barracks for the much improved North Melbourne Kangaroos in the national AFL.
Watching and following cricket is another passion for Colin who rates former Aussie wicketkeeper/batsman Adam Gilchrist as a player he admires.
Colin said the Kenworth T608 with a 650hp Cummins motor and an 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox is wonderful to drive.
