Monthly truck sales picked up in May, but still lagged behind the corresponding month last year, according to the latest numbers just in from the Truck Industry Council.
There were a total of 3351 trucks and vans delivered last month, up from the 2871 total in April, but 570 fewer than the 3921 sales recorded in May 2025.
Long-time market leader Isuzu dipped from 1135 sales in May 2025 to 785 last month.
That’s a market share slide from 28.9 per cent to 23.4, a drop of 5.5 percentage points. Year-to-date, Isuzu has a 22.7 per cent total market share, down from 28.4 per cent at the same time in 2025.
Hino came in second with 325 units last month, bolstering its YTD market share to 10.7 per cent, up from 9.3, with Fuso in third on 287 and a market share of 8.7 per cent YTD.

Both Hino and Fuso are success stories at the top of the table, relative to the decline in monthly sales and year-to-date figures
In a sluggish year for overall sales, Hino has more than held its own, recording 1649 five months into 2026, the same number it had at this stage in 2025.
Fuso has dropped slightly YTD from 1371 to 1341 but its overall market share has climbed from 7.7 per cent to 8.7 per cent.
Kenworth and Volvo round out the top five overall, with the Bayswater badge losing market share compared to the same time last year.

Its 186 units recorded in May is 94 less than it sold in May 2025, and its overall YTD market share among the heavies is now 19.9, down from 23.3 per cent YTD 2025.
DAF continues to be one of the success stories in the category so far in 2026, with 79 prime movers delivered in May.
That brings its YTD tally to 307, good enough for fifth place and a YTD market share of 6 per cent, an impressive rise from the 3.5 per cent share it had at the same time in 2025.
