While many road transport companies find it difficult to hire good and reliable drivers, it is refreshing to hear of one truckie who has been with the same company for three decades.
Michael Adams, 59, has worked for Blenners Transport out of their north Queensland depot beside the Bruce Highway for almost 30 years.
“On September 9 it will be 30 years I have been with Blenners and it has been great,” Michael said.
These days, Michael mostly drives a Kenworth T409, making deliveries around the local region.
“Today I have picked up bananas from a farm and after that I’m heading off to Kennedy just up the highway,” he said.
Reflecting on his time with Blenners, Michael said he started off driving a Hino rigid doing pick-ups and deliveries between Cardwell and Innisfail.
The Mobil Roadhouse at Tully is a place Michael stops off at when he gets a chance.
“The food is fine and the toilets are good,” he said.
In recognition of his long service the company, which normally numbers their trailers, has named one “Cat” which is Michael’s nickname.
“I have had the name Cat since my school days and it has stuck like glue,” he said.
Outside work Michael barracks for the Cowboys in the NRL and enjoys a spot of fishing in the Tully River.
“I use lures chasing Barramundi and watch out for crocodiles,” he said.
One of his workmates, Dippy Southern said Michael was a worker everybody liked.
“Cat is one of the nicest blokes to work with and a real team player,” Dippy said.
I have heard that Blenners will be making a special presentation to Michael when he reaches the milestone.
