Meet the Kenworth driver who wouldn’t trade trucking for anything

Nathaniel Potter, 35, has been driving trucks for almost half of his life.

“I started out when I was 18 and, really, it is a great lifestyle for me,” he said.

Nathaniel was driving a Kenworth T409 for DJ Freight out of Brisbane when Big Rigs saw him parked up at BP Cluden.

“I have come up from Brisbane carting boats for delivery to Townsville’s Lavarack Barracks Army base. But I don’t know yet if I have a backload,” he said.

Nathaniel said he had been with DJ Freight for more than four years and is treated well.

Regarding rest areas, Nathaniel said there are not enough for truckies.

“There is one I like at Pheasant’s Nest on the Hume Highway in New South Wales,” he added.

Like numerous other truckies I have spoken to lately, Nathaniel is a big fan of the Liberty Moorlands Roadhouse.

“It serves good food and the staff are friendly,” he said.

On the subject of bad highways, Nathaniel said the section of the Bruce between Rockhampton and Mackay is in need of work.

When he gets time off, Nathaniel love cars and has a trusty Holden SS which he treasures. His NRL football team is the St George Dragons which was sitting bottom of the ladder when we spoke.

“I think they will win some games before the season is over,” he said.
