The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) says operators can take a more proactive approach to managing their safety with the wider release of one of its new online tools.
The regulator says its free Intercept Outcomes Tool (IOT) provides users with visibility of intercepts and outcomes on their vehicles, arming operators with data to better manage their safety risks and maintain their fleets.
Earlier this year, the NHVR gave accredited operators within its NHVR Go platform initial access to the tool, which is now available to all industry.
NHVR Chief Operations Officer Paul Salvati said industry feedback on the IOT had been positive since it first launched in April.
“Operators are reporting seeing significant value in the tool as it enables them to view intercepts and outcomes before their drivers return to base, when previously they would not have been made aware so quickly and sometimes, not at all,” Salvati said.
“Following industry feedback, we made some enhancements to the platform to make it easier for operators to access this information. Now we have released this tool to a much wider audience.
“By giving operators important intercept information in a timely manner, we can help them be proactive and rectify any non-compliance issues or trends quickly.”
The IOT allows registered operators to view details of NHVR-conducted intercepts and outcomes involving vehicles linked to their NHVR Go account. This also includes date and time of intercepts, state location and offence category and intervention type if an offence is detected.
It provides information including vehicle registration number, VIN or chassis number, and where available, the vehicle make and model.
All information is de-identified to protect driver privacy, with NHVR-issued compliance data updated every 24 hours to ensure operators are working with accurate, current information.
Salvati said this voluntary tool was another way the NHVR was working with the industry to assist them with meeting their obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and improve their safety performance.
Salvati also reminded industry the use of the IOT would not replace paper-based notices or record keeping requirements.
