In his travels around the Far North of Queensland in his Toyota truck, William Munro gets to enjoy some of the most scenic views.
Aged 27, William works for Cairns company Hard As Scaffolding and travels far and wide around the north.
I saw William when he was stopped at a rest area at Craiglie beside the Captain Cook Highway.
With William was an assistant and the pair was carrying scaffolding for nearby Port Douglas.
“I get up north from Cairns to Mossman and Port Douglas and also around the Atherton Tablelands and it is great country. I also get down to Townsville sometimes and up to the Palmer Rivers area and Cooktown,” he said.
Having said that William mentioned that road works along the Captain Cook Highway caused delays.
But he realises that the work is required for safety and will be good when completed.
When he gets time off, William enjoys fishing especially on the reefs off Cairns where he catches coral trout and sweet lip.
Those species of fish are much sought after and in demand and fetch high prices when sold at interstate markets.
But they are in plentiful quantities in waters around the Great Barrier Reef with anglers having to abide by a number to take home.
William’s skills at catching them would be the envy of truckies around Australia who list a hobby as fishing.
And there are thousands.
