Western Freeway closed due to truck fire

A truck carrying toilet paper has caught fire this morning, closing inbound lanes of Melbourne’s Western Freeway and causing significant peak hour delays.

The Western Freeway is closed inbound between the Old Western Highway, Hopetoun Park and Coburns Road, Melton.

The incident occurred at about 5.30am and a massive clean-up is underway.

Emergency services are at the scene detouring traffic. VicTraffic advised, “Diversions have been set up by emergency services onto the Old Western Highway/Bacchus Marsh exit.  You can then return to the Western Freeway via Coburns Road through Melton.

“This closure is under Victoria Police control. The Melbourne-bound lanes of the freeway will re-open when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.”

The cause of the fire is at yet unknown.
