Pop-up vax site up and running for truckies in Tugun

vaxxed

Queensland authorities want to give truckies every opportunity to comply with the state’s new mandatory double-dose vax rules for interstate drivers.

A dedicated heavy vehicle site opened in Tugun at 1pm yesterday with another coming soon at Goondiwindi. We’ll post more details on that one when they come to hand.

The Tugun site is located on the corner of Boyd Street and Coolangatta Road, just north of the dedicated freight vehicle checkpoint northbound on the Gold Coast Highway.

Hours of operation are from 8am to 8pm, every day, and no appointment is needed.

Drivers park up on the Gold Coast Highway (under a lane closure) and walk across Coolangatta Road under traffic control.

Truckies must remain on site for the requested observation time after vaccination (15-30 minutes).

Big Rigs has asked TMR for more information on what the vax options are on site.

According to the new Queensland Freight Protocol rules that come into play from October 5, interstate truckies have until 1am on October 15 to receive one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

By 1am on November 15, you must also have received a second dose, or provide evidence of a booking.

The new vax rules also mean that interstate truckies will no longer be required to produce a negative Covid test result in the last 72 hours, or maintain rolling three-day testing.

From October 5, you must provide evidence of a negative test result within seven days prior to entering Queensland, and you must maintain a rolling seven-day testing regime (using a PCR test only) while travelling in and out of Queensland.

The X Pass (Border Zone) will no longer will be valid when operating under the QLD Freight Protocol from the same date.
