On our way north from Hobart recently we dropped into the Halfway Café at Campbelltown to grab some of their excellent home-cooked tucker.
1986 vintage beauty continues to turn heads
Tassie truckie Mick Hansson has kept this vibrant yellow 1986 Mack R Model in immaculate condition, and it’s continuing to turn heads when it’s out on the road.
Keeping busy out on the road
Josh Bennett was on his way to Scottsdale in Tassie after picking up a grader in Launceston when he pulled up just as the rain began falling.
A bumper grain season
Driving a schmick Vaucluse Agricultural’s 2009 Western Star Constellation with a 550 Series 60 Cummins up front, and towing a tri-axle tipper, Blue Perkins stopped for a chat.
A blast from the past
It was a great surprise to catch up with our old friend Leigh Phillips, from Saint Arnaud in Victoria, at Kempton, in company with Dwayne McDonald, promoter for the Red Hot Summer Tour.
Continuing the family tradition
It is always a pleasure to catch up with women driving professionally, and so it was when Amber Brosnan (Sarah Brosnan’s daughter) rolled in, driving a schmick Dave Richards Contracting’s 2012 Western Star Constellation with a Series 60 up front.
Following his dad’s footsteps
Stopping over for lunch at Kempton, we were thrilled to meet up with Joel Clements from Legana out the back when he called in, keeping company with fellow truckie Bruce Clifford for a refreshment break.
Many kilometres travelled
Passing through Kempton we made our way through the extensive renovations to the 24-hour Caltex Truckstop and Roadhouse and were fortunate to catch up with Bruce Clifford from Legana.
A change of scenery
“I’ve been here with Norton’s for nine and a half years now, and I reckon they are a great outfit to work for, in fact they are such a good mob that the only way a job ever comes up here is if someone dies!” said Wayne Anderson from Burnie.
Transporting “anything and everything”
Well things are surely progressing apace with the renovations at Mood Food, the 24-hour Truckstop at Kempton, and it was great to catch up with Peter Smith from Geilston Bay, who had recently fuelled up at the new dedicated diesel area, while he was enjoying a break there on a rather cool summer’s day.
